Yesterday was a pretty big day for Samsung, with the launch of its the new batch of foldable phones in an Unpacked event in its own home market. Appearing to want a slice of the hype pie is OnePlus with a conveniently-timed tweet that suggests that the brand’s foldable phone will be called the OnePlus Open.
The tweet went up at 6PM, an hour before the Samsung Unpacked event kicked off, and reads “We OPEN when others FOLD”. Which sounds like a call-out directed at the Samsung Galaxy Fold5, considering the timing of the tweet. With that in mind, this overlaps with a previous leak that referred to the OnePlus foldable as the V Fold.

Since the brand’s tweet consists of only five words and no images, there’s nothing else to be gleamed here. But the prior leak involving the aforementioned V Fold suggests that the potentially renamed OnePlus Open will come with a 2K LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and will be equipped with the yet-to-be-announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2 chipset. Renders suggest that the primary camera setup will sit in a circular island, possibly consisting of a 50MP primary shooter, accompanied by a wide-angle and a periscope camera.
The prior leak also pointed at an unveiling sometime in the third quarter of the year, or more specifically in August. Those are pretty big time windows either way. But since we’re already in the tail end of this month, if these announcement details are accurate it probably won’t be long before we see the actual device in an official capacity, regardless of it being called the OnePlus Open or V Fold.
