Sony has recently opened pre-orders for its latest APS-C mirrorless camera, the A6700, for the Malaysian market. It is also the long awaited successor to the four-year-old A6600 model, and is equipped with numerous improvements in hardware and features.
To recap, the new Sony A6700 is equipped with a 26MP back-illuminated Exmor R APS-C CMOS sensor, the latest Bionz XR image processing engine, and a dedicated AI processing unit. It also features 5-axis in-body image stabilisation, native ISO range of 100 to 102,400, 14+ stops of dynamic range, and is capable of 11fps continuous shooting in both mechanical and electronic shutter modes.
In terms of video, the camera can record 4K footage that is super-sampled from 6K at up to 120fps with 10-bit 4:2:2 quality and full AF/AE tracking. Additionally, it offers All-I, FHD/240p, as well as S-Cinetone and S-Log3 profiles. Sony adds that you can also hook the camera up to a PC and use it as a webcam.
Newly introduced features on the A6700 includes auto-framing, active mode stabilisation that combines both digital and optical anti-shake approaches, as well as improved autofocus and tracking. For the latter, subject real-time recognition includes people, eyes, animals, vehicles and more. Another much welcomed addition is the digital focus breathing compensation for compatible lenses, which scales the frame to ensure that you get the same composition throughout the focus range during video recording.
As for design, the Sony’s new APS-C mirrorless flagship camera shares the same form factor as its predecessor, but has updated layouts for its shutter, dial and buttons, as well as a bigger grip and a new vari-angle LCD screen. The latter features a 7.5cm TFT touch panel with 1.03 million dot resolution, while situated above it is a 1cm electronic viewfinder with 2.3 million dot resolution and supports up to 120fps. Besides that, the camera also has mic and headphone ports, hotshoe, a USB-C 3.2, a micro HDMI port, and a single SD UHS-II card slot. Meanwhile, its body is built to be both dust and moisture resistant.
Those interested can now pre-order the Sony A6700 via the brand’s official web store, as well as authorised retailers nationwide such as Shashinki, YL Camera and so on. The camera on its own is priced at RM7,099, while bundling it with an SEL1650 or SEL18135 kit lens will cost you RM 7,799 or RM9,190 respectively. According to Sony’s website, the new APS-C flagship shooter is expected to arrive in Malaysia from 3 September 2023 onwards.
