With Sony having already made available the Xperia 1 V, and the Xperia 10 V on the way, it’s the turn of the Xperia 5 V to make its rounds on the internet, be they via leaks or official sources. But it looks like the former is the first off the line, as a video of the phone, presumably an ad that got out early, was leaked via Reddit.
The video was posted y u/JB2unique in the r/SonyXperia subreddit which, at 10 or so seconds in, shows that the Sony Xperia 5 V will have one major difference compared to its predecessor. And that is the fact that it will only have two rear cameras as opposed to the usual three. It’s unclear whether it is the wide-angle or the telephoto shooter that’s been to the chopping block, but it hopefully means a reduction in price either way.

Other details include the ZEISS T* branding on the camera island, so at least that part of the predecessor model is making a return. As you’d expect from Sony phones, the Xperia 5 V looks to still be keeping the 3.5mm audio jack, the 21:9 aspect ratio and the good old notchless screen. The power button still looks like it doubles as a fingerprint sensor, and the dedicated camera shutter button seems to also still be present. So even if it’s down a camera, it still mostly looks to be what you would expect an Xperia phone to be like.
At the end of the video is the Sony Xperia 5 V in three colours, which are the standard black and white, as well as a blue option. No dates were provided, so their launch and availability dates are up in the air, especially local details. On one hand, the Xperia V series usually launch and become available in the last quarter of the year. But with this video making its way onto the internet this early, it’s not impossible for the company to decide to push it out earlier.
