Shopee has revised its authenticity policy for its Mall sellers, quadrupling the amount of compensation for counterfeit products. Previously, the company offered a 2X money back guarantee if customers received fake products from a Mall the seller, but it has upped the ante to a whopping 8X, but to a certain limit.
The new policy took place starting from 15 July 2023, and it really shows the firm’s confidence in its platform for authorised distributors and brands. It already implements a strict internal authenticity check for all Shopee Mall brands, but to build even more trust between buyers and sellers, the 8X money back will be borne by the seller to incentivise them to only offer authentic goods.
One caveat for this is that the 8X multiplier is capped at RM5000 unless the full original amount is more than RM5,000, in which case, customers will only receive the original amount with no multiplier. For example, if your order costs RM6,000 and it was a dupe, you’ll only get a RM6,000 refund instead of RM48,000.
Unfortunately, this new policy does not extend to preferred sellers, who are differentiated from Shopee Mall brands. If you purchase something from a preferred seller with a “100% Authentic” tag and found out it was counterfeit, you will only get a full refund and nothing more.
