Meta has quietly released its Meta Verified programme in Malaysia, its own checkmark subscription that was rolled out in select countries earlier this year. As you can guess, the programme is meant to give users more authenticity as getting the blue tick requires users to verify their identity.
According to a report by Amanz, who have gotten past the waiting list and are able to purchase the subscription, Meta Verified costs a whopping RM41.99 per month on the mobile app. However, when we accessed the subscription page through the web browser, it presented to us a monthly price of RM36.99.
It’s uncertain whether the company changed the pricing from the time Amanz’s report came out or if the subscription is cheaper through web than through iOS or Android. This discrepancy between platforms is not unheard of, with Twitter pulling the same move for its Blue subscription.
Once you have gotten through the waitlist, you will need to provide your IC in order for the app to confirm you are who you say you are. To be eligible, users must be at least 18 years old, enable two-factor authentication, have a prior posting history, and only your real name can be used for your account in order to be verified.
Another significant caveat is that your Meta Verified subscription cannot be shared between your Instagram and Facebook accounts, meaning that you’ll need to buy separate subscriptions for both platforms. Moreover, if you have multiple accounts on either platform, each account must have its own Meta Verified subscription.
