Sony, via its official Sony Alpha account on Threads, has announced that it will hold a product announcement tomorrow on 12 July 2023. As revealed in the post’s accompanying teaser image, the event will be streamed live through the company’s official YouTube channel at 10pm local time.
As you may have guessed, Sony did not say what product it will be unveiling tomorrow, though it’ll definitely be a camera under its Alpha brand. The only other hint it provided is the event’s tagline, “Next generation on the go”, which implies that the upcoming device is a continuation to an existing model, and could also be compact in size.
One thing’s for sure, seeing that it’ll be released under the brand’s Alpha line of cameras, it is very unlikely that the product will be the long awaited successor to the Sony Cybershot RX0 action camera series which last saw a launch back in 2019. There’s also a chance that we might see a next generation Alpha flagship, or yet another variant of the existing line-up. Regardless, we’ll only know for sure during the live stream.
Meanwhile, on the unofficial side of things, detailed close-up shots of what is claimed to be the Sony Alpha 6700 (A6700) have made their way online earlier this month thanks to website SonyAlphaRumors. It is believed that this alleged successor to the brand’s A6600 model from four years prior will be unveiled tomorrow.
According to the publication, the camera will feature an improved design over its predecessor, and will be equipped with a 26MP APS-C sensor. Besides that, it is also suggested to come with 4K 120p video recording capability, AI features, 7-stop in-body image stabilisation (IBIS), and a 3.67 million dot electronic viewfinder (EVF).
It’s also worth noting that there’s also a chance that Sony might introduce more than one product tomorrow. This is somewhat implied by the same Threads post which reads, “Something(s) fresh arrives on Wednesday at 7:00 AM Pacific.” Seeing that the A6600 launched alongside the entry-level A6100 back in 2019, it is possible that this might be the case.
