Apple’s updated Mac Studio, announced during this year’s WWDC, is finally available for purchase in Malaysia. The miniature desktop computer comes with more powerful chipset options using the latest Apple Silicon SoCs, namely the M2 Max and M2 Ultra.
The Mac Studio with M2 Max starts from RM9,499 for the base model with 32GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. The base M2 Max comes with a 12-core CPU, 30-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine, but can be configured with a more powerful variant with a 38-core GPU.
The base model can only be configured with up to 64GB of unified memory while 96GB is reserved for the higher-tier M2 Max model while the M2 Ultra Mac Studio can be equipped with up to a whopping 192GB of RAM. As for storage, the M2 Ultra Mac Studio, which starts from RM18,999, has a base storage of 1TB, but all variants can be maxed out to 8TB.
The M2 Max variant has two USB-C ports and a SDXC card slot on the front as well as four Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, a 10Gb Ethernet port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the back. As for the Ultra, the company upgraded the two front USB-C ports to Thunderbolt 4, but everything else is the same as its Max counterpart.
All in all, a fully decked-out Mac Studio with a 76-core GPU M2 Ultra, 192GB of unified memory, and 8TB of storage will set you back RM38,199. The site says that it will take up to five days to ship out the small desktop unless you configure it with 192GB of RAM, which will then extend the waiting period to two to three weeks.
