The Apple Vision Pro was unveiled last month, and as the years of rumours regarding it has suggested, it is indeed an extremely premium piece of tech. Of course, if its price is not enough an indication as to its exclusive status, a new report by Bloomberg claims that it is not something that you can just pop into a store and buy.
Said report notes that “Apple will ask in-store buyers to make an appointment to purchase the Vision Pro”. The company may also ask users for their vision prescription for lens inserts. In the same vein, the iPhone maker is reportedly developing two ways to scan a person’s head. One of these would be a physical machine, another would be via an iPhone app. All this is done so that customers who walk out of a store with the headset would have a product that fits them perfectly.
On the subject of stores, Bloomberg previously reported that Apple intends to prepare dedicated demo areas within its retail space to market the Vision Pro. While this appears to still be the plan, the new report notes that each store will have only one or two of the headsets to serve as demo units.
The report also notes that the headset will be the fruit company’s “most complex debut to date”, requiring “tricky supply chain logistics”, as well as training of staffers to properly set the headset up, and teaching potential customers to use it. Because of this, Apple may only start partnering with third-party resellers to sell the Vision Pro in 2025. The device itself is expected to debut in the US early next year, with other markets getting it later in the year. The report also claims that Apple engineers are localising the headset for France, Germany, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.
