As announced earlier this year during Belanjawan 2023, the government has officially launched the MyPSV programme, which fully subsidises the cost of getting a public service vehicle (PSV) licence. Those aiming to get a vocational driving licence can choose between e-hailing, taxi, or even a licence to drive a bus.
MyPSV will absorb the licence fees for 4,000 eligible candidates, divided into 3,500 slots for e-hailing or taxis and 500 slots for those seeking a bus driving licence. According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, theory course fees for each candidate taking the e-hailing or taxi PSV licence is RM190 whereas the bus licence costs RM2,590 per person, covering both theory and practical exams.
To qualify, you need to be at least 21 years old, a Malaysian citizen, pass medical checkups, and should not have been blacklisted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the police, or the courts. Applicants for the e-hailing or taxi licence must have a D- or DA-class competent driving licence (CDL) whereas those vying for a bus licence must have a D- or E-class CDL.
According to the Finance Ministry’s website, priority for these 4,000 slots will be given to those in the B40 economic class. You can apply for the programme through the ministry’s Google form and if you don’t receive an offer after four weeks, it means that your application has been rejected and there is no appeal process.
