Indonesia has finally been added to the cross-border DuitNow QR payment feature on the BigPay mobile app, totalling the number of supported countries to three. The company’s announcement comes a month after the cross-border QR payment linkage was jointly announced by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Bank Indonesia in late May this year.
Much like the existing support for Thailand and Singapore, BigPay users can seamlessly make QR-based cashless and cardless payments in Indonesia via DuitNow. According to the platform, the feature is now compatible with the country’s QRIS QR code system, which is offered by services including Alto, Artajasa, Jalin and Rintis.
In case you need a refresher, using the cross-border Duitnow QR payment feature on BigPay won’t be that much different from using it locally. All you need to do is tap on the QR button in the app, scan a merchant’s QRIS QR Code, enter the amount in the local currency, and then click “Pay” to complete the process. As before, BigPay promises to offer its users competitive exchange rates for every transaction done through this method.
Of course, keep in mind that you need to preload the BigPay e-wallet before your trip to any of the three supported countries to ensure that you have enough for QR payments. Alternatively, you can enable the onboard top-up function which will automatically charge your saved credit or debit card a set amount when your balance falls below a certain amount.
BigPay users can enjoy the new cross-border DuitNow QR payment integration with Indonesia’s QRIS QR starting today onwards. For those interested to sign up for BigPay, keep in mind that you are required to verify your identity and face, as well as pay RM20 to activate and top-up your new account.
