Xiaomi today has officially launched the Xiaomi 13 Ultra in Malaysia. As most of us are well aware of by now, it is the top-end variant of the brand’s 2023 flagship smartphone series; packing Qualcomm’s most powerful current-generation chipset as well as Leica-tuned cameras with two-step aperture and Sony’s 1-inch IMX989 50.3MP sensor.
Unlike its Chinese release, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is only offered in Black and Olive Green colour options, which means we might not see the White version anytime soon or at all. Apart from that, everything else in terms of the phone’s design, overall functions, and IP68 water/dustproof rating are unchanged.
To recap, the Ultra model packs a curved 6.73-inch C7 LTPO AMOLED display with 3200 x 1440 pixel resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and a peak brightness of 2600 nits. It also has an under-display optical fingerprint scanner, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection, stereo speakers, and a USB-C port for data transfer and charging.
Under the phone’s hood is a Snapdragon 8 Gen2 chipset, along with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Unfortunately, this is the only memory configuration offered for the local market. Additionally, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra also comes with a built-in Loop LiquidCool cooling system, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC connectivity, Android 13 via MIUI 14, and a 5,000mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless fast-charging support.
For photography, featured on the back of the phone is a Leica quad-camera setup consisting the aforementioned 1-inch Sony IMX 989 50.3MP primary sensor with physical two-step aperture, which is paired together with three Sony IMX858 50MP sensors for its ultra-wide, mid-range telephoto and periscope-equipped telephoto shooters. On the other hand, housed within a punch-hole cutout on the Ultra variant’s display is a 32MP selfie camera.
The newly launched Xiaomi 13 Ultra is priced at RM5,199 and will be available for pre-order in Malaysia starting 23 June until 29 June 2023 via the brand’s authorised stores and other official retailers nationwide. The company notes that those who pre-order within this period are also entitled to receive a Xiaomi Instant Photo Printer 1S set, 100GB cloud storage on Google One for 6 months and 1+1 years of extended warranty for free while stocks last.
And just in case if you’re wondering, the company confirmed that it has no plans on locally releasing the exclusive Xiaomi 13 Ultra case which features a handgrip, dedicated shutter button, and lens cover. For your reference, this optional accessory is retailing at CNY999 (~RM643) in China.
