Xiaomi Malaysia today has revealed that the top-end variant for its current generation flagship smartphone series will be coming to the local market soon. According to its post on Facebook, an official announcement regarding the forthcoming arrival of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra model will be made by the company next week on 20 June 2023. Keep in mind that the phone won’t be launching in Malaysia just yet, and it is very likely that Xiaomi will only reveal the local debut date by then.
Since it’s been a couple of months since its initial launch in China, here’s a quick recap of the forthcoming Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Starting with its design, the phone is revealed to feature a curved all-screen front, and a faux leather rear panel with an elevated upper half which houses its large, circular camera bump. Based on its home turf debut, Xiaomi is offering the top-end model in three colourways: Black, Olive Green, and White. The company has yet to confirm whether Malaysia’s getting all these colour options, as releases sometimes differ from one market to another.
For display, featured on the Ultra model is a large 6.73-inch curved touchscreen with an all-new C7 LTPO AMOLED panel, which comes with a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, and a peak brightness of 2600 nits. The phone itself also has an under-display optical fingerprint scanner, a 32MP selfie camera housed within a punch-hole cutout on its display, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection, IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, stereo speakers, and a USB-C port.
Internally, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen2 chipset, along with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. It also features a new self-developed Loop LiquidCool cooling system, Android 13 via MIUI 14, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC wireless connectivity support. Meanwhile, powering the phone is a 5,000mAh battery with 90 W wired and 50 W wireless fast-charging support.
Imaging-wise, found on the back of the device is a Leica quad-camera setup which consists of the 1-inch Sony IMX 989 50.3MP primary sensor with physical two-step aperture, paired with three Sony IMX858 50MP sensors for its ultra-wide, mid-range telephoto and periscope-equipped telephoto shooters. The first of which offers 12 mm f/1.8 ultra-wide framing with 5 cm macro focusing capabilities, the second offers 75 mm 3.2x optical zooming capabilities with f/1.8 aperture and OIS (optical image stabilisation), while the third offers 120 mm 5x optical zoom with f/3.0 aperture.
For your reference, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra launched in China at a starting price of CNY 5,999 (~RM 3,864) and topping off at CNY 7,299 (~RM 4,701). As with most smartphones, there’s a chance that memory options may differ for different countries upon launch. But as we mentioned earlier, we’ll only find out more once the company is ready to reveal further details of the device’s local debut next week.
