Qualcomm has confirmed the date of its annual Snapdragon Summit for this year, which is slated to happen on 24 to 26 October 2023 – yet again in Maui, Hawaii. As per tradition, it is expected that the event will see the unveiling of the company’s next generation flagship mobile chipset, tentatively known as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Surprisingly, the upcoming Snapdragon Summit will be arriving early, unlike previous years where the event often is held in November. Which is not a bad thing whatsoever, as the advanced introduction of Qualcomm’s latest hardware will still give us plenty of insight on what to expect from next generation flagship devices.
Speaking of which, it is alleged that the first few brands that will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be Xiaomi, vivo, iQOO, OnePlus and realme. According to tech insider Digital Chat Station via Weibo, the newer devices employing Qualcomm’s latest chipset are expected to debut earliest by the last quarter of the year, with the launch of the Xiaomi 14 smartphone series in November. This is then followed by the vivo X100 series, the iQOO 12 Series, Xiaomi’s Redmi K70 series, the OnePlus 12 and the realme GT5 in the months to come, he added.
Not much is known about the supposed Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 at this time, though leaksters are claiming that it will be 50% faster than Qualcomm’s current generation SoC. The upcoming hardware is believed to be a 5nm octa-core chipset that’s manufactured and based on TSMC’s N4P node. It will come with a new 1+5+2 core configuration, which consists of one X4 3.75GHz mega-core, five A720 3GHz performance cores, and two A520 2GHz efficiency cores.
Performance aside, it is also very likely for the company to introduce new, innovative technologies as well as improvements on the upcoming chip. These include better power efficiency, advanced AI capabilities, higher resolution support for photography and video capture, and much more.
Whether the various rumours mentioned above are accurate or not remains to be seen. Undoubtedly, we will only find out once Qualcomm fully unveils its latest product during the Snapdragon Summit later in October.
