Leaks on this year’s version of the Motorola Razr, now often called the Razr 40 series, have been coming out the wazoo the past couple of months. Either to stem the tide, or because the time was right anyway, the company has finally announced that the launch of its iconic clamshell phones will be coming soon. In fact, it is happening as soon as the next month starts.
Via the official Motorola Twitter account, the company posted the date of 1 June, alongside the tagline of “Flip the script”. Worth noting is that the date lines up with what leakster Evan Blass has previously claimed. Accompanying the tweet is a video showing the silhouettes of two clamshell foldable phones. Their extremely short time on screen and the fact that they are shrouded in darkness makes it difficult to tell if they are the same device or two distinct models. If it’s the latter, then it lines up with most of the rumours we’ve heard so far, that the Motorola Razr 40 series has a Lite model and an Ultra variant.

As for what we know of the two devices, sadly not much is known about the former, besides the fact that it will have a smaller screen. The latter, on the other hand, has been rumoured to come with a 2640 x 1080 HDR AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, as well as a square-ish 1056 x 1066 screen on the outside. Powering the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra itself is said to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen1 chipset, and it will come with a 13MP + 12MP camera setup.
Going back to the announcement tweet itself, Motorola has chosen a tagline that is both fitting and yet ironic at the same time with “Flip the script”. On one hand, yes, it’s a callback to the clamshell flip phones from before. But on the flip side, it’s difficult to imagine what the series will be packing that is unexpected or revolutionary, though we’re not against being pleasantly surprised.
