Amazfit has announced via social media that its latest heavy duty smartwatch, the T-Rex Ultra, will be coming to Malaysia this Thursday, on 18 May 2023. Moreover, according to the brand’s official online store on Shopee, the upcoming wearable is revealed to sport a very competitive sub-RM2,000 price tag.
In case you missed it, Amazfit initially introduced the T-Rex Ultra for the US market back in March this year. The new model is somewhat an offshoot of the brand’s T-Rex 2 model from July 2022, where it retains a similar rugged design but has numerous stainless steel parts instead. There are some other differences which sets it apart from its predecessor as well, but we’ll get to that later.
The new smartwatch is fitted with a 316L stainless steel bezel, back panel, bridge and buttons, which is built around a polymer alloy middle frame. Like the T-Rex 2, it too comes with a MIL-STD-810G rating for durability, as well as 10 ATM rating for water resistance. Unique to the T-Rex Ultra is its EN13319 & ISO6245 certifications, which means it can still function properly up to 30 metres in depth and could even withstand water pressure equivalent to up to 100 metres.
Again, much like its predecessor, the newer model also sports the same 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen with 454 x 454 pixel resolution, 326 PPI, and a max brightness of 1000 nits. One of the differences to note is the new onboard BioTracker PPG biometric sensor, which supports blood-oxygen tracking. However, it lacks the 6PD support that’s featured on the T-Rex 2.
Nevertheless, the wearable is packed with over 160 sports modes, as well as numerous other useful features such as air 24-hour heart rate, Sp02 tracking, pressure and altitude monitoring, compass, GPS positioning via six satellite systems, offline map support, and more. All of which are handled by the onboard Zepp OS 2.0 platform.
For battery, Amazfit claims that the T-Rex Ultra is capable of lasting up to 20 days of typical use, and up to 25 days in battery saver mode. In comparison, it has a slightly shorter usage life when compared to its predecessor, even though they both pack the same 500mAh capacity. For your reference, the T-Rex 2 is claimed to be able to last up to 24 days when used typically, and 45 days with battery saver mode activated.
As mentioned earlier, Amazfit will bring in the new T-Rex Ultra in Malaysia on 18 May 2023, which will be available via the brand’s official online stores on Shopee and Lazada. At launch, the heavy duty smartwatch will retail at RM1,899, with colourway choices of either Abyss Black or Sahara.
