Last month, Xiaomi debuted its new Redmi Note 12 series and today, it unveiled three new phones for the lineup that sit below the Note 12 Pro Plus 5G. The new mid-range offerings are the Redmi Note 12 Pro, Note 12 Pro Plus, and Note 12S.
Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G
First up, we have the Note 12 Pro 5G which sports a 6.67-inch 1080p AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 900 nits. The phone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and is rated as IP53 for dust and water resistance.
Internally, it runs on the same MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset as the Pro Plus 5G, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. For connectivity, it supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC.
The back of the Note 12 Pro 5G features a three-camera setup with a 50MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro while the front houses a 16MP selfie shooter. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 67W charging.
Redmi Note 12 Pro
Next, we have the 4G variant of the Note 12 Pro which has a different design for the back panel with an additional camera. It is equipped with a 6.67-inch 1080p AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a higher peak brightness of 1,100 nits. For protection, it has Gorilla Glass 5 and IP53 dust and water resistance.
Under the hood, the phone uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G SoC and can be configured with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage with a microSD card slot for expansion. Aside from the lack of 5G support, its connectivity also gets downgraded to Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1, but it still has NFC.
Camera-wise, it offers a 108MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. Similar to its 5G counterpart, its battery has a 5,000mAh capacity with support for 67W charging.
Redmi Note 12S
Last but not least, there is the Note 12S, which is positioned just above the vanilla Note 12. It features a 6.43-inch 1080p AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. While it still has IP53 dust and water resistance, the screen protection is downgraded to Gorilla Glass 3.
For the chipset, it runs on the MediaTek Helio G96 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage with a microSD expansion slot. As for connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC. All three phones are also equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack and an IR blaster.
The Note 12S sports a 108MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro lens, along with a 16MP selfie sensor. It is powered by the same 5,000mAh battery but it comes with slower 33W charging.
As for the pricing, the Redmi Note 12S is sold for RM999 while the Note 12 Pro and 12 Pro 5G cost RM1,099 and RM1,299 respectively. The new phones will be available for purchase starting 12 May 2023.
