OnePlus recently debuted its ANC-equipped budget earbuds, the Nord Buds 2, just last month but it seems that the company is already gearing up to launch another variant of them. As reported by tipster Mukul Sharma, a yet-to-announced pair of earbuds dubbed the Nord Buds 2R has been spotted on the SIRIM database.
Nothing is known about the 2R yet, but shortly after releasing the Buds Pro 2 for the global market, the brand also unveiled a cheaper version called the Buds Pro 2R that is exclusively sold in India. If that’s any indication, the Nord Buds 2R might also be a cut-down variant of the regular earbuds, potentially making the already-affordable wearables even easier on your wallet.
For reference, the Buds Pro 2R are essentially the same as its higher-end counterpart except for the lack of wireless charging and head tracking. Aside from those differences, they offer the exact same design with spatial audio, dual connection, and other features, along with an identical battery life claim.
The OnePlus Nord Buds 2 earbuds sport 12.4mm titanium drivers with IP55 dust and water resistance. At RM329, they also feature ANC, a transparency mode, and multipoint Bluetooth support along with up to a total of 36 hours of usage when combined with the charging case.
If the Nord Buds 2R really are a toned-down version, it’s unclear what features will be removed. Given that the original earbuds retail for just above the RM300-mark, it wouldn’t be surprising if the 2R came with a price tag in the RM200 range.
Sharma claims that the OnePlus Nord Buds 2R have already gone into serial production and could launch at the same time as the Nord 3 in India, which is expected to happen soon. Given that they have received SIRIM certification, it’s safe to say that the earbuds will likely make their way onto our shores soon after their debut.
