Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has officially debuted the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance for the local market today during the first day of this year’s Malaysia Auto Show. Initially introduced for other markets last year, it is touted to be the brand’s first performance hybrid and the most powerful series-production model to date.
Like many cars from the AMG range, the new four-door coupe too is based on Mercedes’ existing models, namely the CLS-Class. It is also the latest variant of the original Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4Matic+ that launched in Malaysia back in 2019, as well as the first to be launched under the German luxury automotive company’s new E Performance hybrid strategy. To be more specific, vehicles utilising the latter concept feature an independent drive layout, along with an electric motor and battery on the rear axle.
Powering the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine, paired together with a powerful electric motor and a high-performance AMG battery. Like its non-hybrid siblings, the car also features the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. Combined, these are claimed to output 620 kW (843 hp) and 1400 Nm torque, allowing for acceleration from nought to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 316 km/h.
Inside, Mercedes’ hybrid powerhouse is equipped with AMG Performance Seats with Nappa leather upholstery, AMG carbon fibre trim, the brand’s MBUX widescreen cockpit and multimedia system, a heads up display, Burnmester sound system, numerous active safety and electronic convenience features, as well as a panoramic sunroof. Besides that, other noteworthy features include the AMG Aerodynamics Package, Multibeam LED headlights, and 21-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke forged wheels.
As you’d expect, the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance will cost you a pretty penny; starting from RM 2,088,888 for the base option. Speaking of choices, the car is offered in two exclusive finishes: MANUFAKTUR Kalahari Gold and AMG Green Hell Magno.
