vivo has been reportedly developing the S17 series, which will apparently go head to head with the HONOR 90 series and OPPO Reno 10 series in its home market. While nothing has been officially announced by the brand, reliable tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) posted what it alleges to be the specs for the lineup.
The series will purportedly consist of three devices, namely the S17, S17 Pro and S17e. The tipster revealed that the vanilla S17 will run on the Snapdragon SM7325, which appears to be either the Snapdragon 778G or Snapdragon 782G chipset.
For the highest-tier S17 Pro, it is said that the smartphone will run on the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset. To compare it to its predecessors, the S16 and S16 Pro ran on the Snapdragon 870 and Dimensity 8200 SoCs respectively, so we might not see much of an internal upgrade. As for the S17e, which could be the more budget-friendly option of the mid-range lineup, the tipster gave no information on what chip will be powering it.
DCS also claims that the vivo S17 and S17 Pro will sport BOE-supplied OLED displays with a resolution of 1.5K, but the actual sizes of the screen are still unknown. Another report from last month said that all three phones will feature AMOLED displays with curved edges and a colour-changing back panel.
For the vanilla and Pro models, they will apparently be equipped with a 50MP Sony IMX766V primary camera with support for optical image stabilisation (OIS) as well as a 12MP IMX663 telephoto lens. Other cameras that may be part of the lineup are still a mystery.
Last but not least, the report claims that the phone will support 80W fast charging, but it did not reveal the battery sizes. According to the rumour mill, the series could be launched in May; the vivo S17 Pro is said to be branded as the V29 Pro for the global market in the future.
