The Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) is confirmed to be the second location in Malaysia after the Sungai Besi Highway which will implement the Multi Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) proof of concept (POC) later this year in October. This was announced by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi today via a statement posted on his official Facebook page.
Additionally, he revealed that the DUKE highway will also be participating in the implementation of the open toll payment system that is expected to begin a month earlier in September, joining other highways in Malaysia that are already confirmed prior to this. The latter of which includes the aforementioned Sungai Besi Expressway, along with the New Pantai Expressway, Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway, Guthrie Corridor Expressway, Penang Bridge, Butterworth-Kulim Expressway, Damansara-Puchong Expressway, SPRINT Highway, Shah Alam Expressway, SMART Tunnel, and the Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Expressway. The addition of DUKE now brings the total number of participating highways to 12.
“As we all know, the implementation of the open toll payment system is an initial preparation for the transition towards MLFF before it is fully implemented in phases by the third quarter of 2024,” he said in the statement. “This effort is hoped to provide an opportunity for the government, concession companies and the parties involved to identify and resolve all issues that may hinder the smooth implementation of the MLFF in the future.”
Nanta also noted that the implementation of the open toll payment system and MLFF are currently on schedule, and that the Works Ministry is working hard to ensure that all plans will proceed accordingly. “I am asking for the cooperation of all parties to be patient and give some time to the team in this ministry who are committed to implementing the open payment system to ensure that the MLFF transition can be realised,” he added.
