National automaker Proton has announced that its new X90 SUV is now available for booking, exclusively via its 3S and 4S outlets nationwide. The upcoming vehicle was announced by the company in March this year and is also revealed to be its first-ever release to feature a hybrid powertrain.
To recap our previous report, the Proton X90 is actually based on its Geely counterpart, the Okavango SUV (otherwise known as the Haoyue in China). While mostly similar in terms of overall aesthetics, what sets the former apart from the latter is the redesigned front grille which features a weave pattern inspired by songket, as well as the numerous Proton and X90 branding found throughout the car.
Inside, the new SUV will feature up to seven seats and is adorned with black leather interior with beige headlining. Depending on variant, it could also come with a near-full length panoramic sunroof and ventilated seats. There is also a 10-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, USB-A ports in the first, second and third rows, a single USB-C in the middle, as well as a wireless phone charger in front.
Performance-wise, the Proton X90 is equipped with a 1.5 L TGDi three-cylinder turbo engine, which is paired with a 48 V Electric Motor Synergy (EMS) System. The latter is said to consist of six elements, namely a 48V Belt-Starter Generator motor, DCDC Converter, Battery Management System, Recuperation Braking System, Hybrid Module Control System and a lithium-ion battery. Working in tandem, both the engine and electric motor allows the SUV to provide for a combined power output of 190 PS and 300 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, transmission is delivered via the onboard seven-speed wet-dual-clutch gearbox.
Even though bookings for the X90 are now available, Proton has yet to reveal the pricing for all of its variants. In regards to the latter, the national automaker has revealed that the upcoming SUV will be offered in four options: Standard, Executive, Premium, and Flagship.
