The premium electric vehicles market in Malaysia today welcomes yet another new model into the fold with the official launch of the Jaguar I-Pace. It is the first-ever EV release from the English brand who has previously announced that it is working to go fully electric by 2025.
Let’s dive straight into its performance: the I-Pace which has an all-wheel drive setup is equipped with two electric motors that deliver a combined output of 294kW (400PS) and 696Nm of torque. The new SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds although its maximum speed has been electronically limited to 200km/h.
To further enhance its driving dynamics, the I-Pace have been equipped with several features such as All Surface Progress Control, Hill Launch Assist, Low Traction Launch, and Dynamic Stability Control. Also comes standard with the I-Pace are JaguarDrive Control, Electric Power Assisted Steering, Electric Parking Brake, and Active Vanes.
When it comes to battery, I-Pace has been fitted with a 90kWh lithium-ion module which takes around 8.6 hours of charging time to go from 0% to 80% through the SUV’s onboard 11kW AC charger. Naturally, the charging time can be significantly reduced to under 40 minutes by hooking it up to a 100kW DC fast charger (DCFC).
As per the majority of new EVs that were launched in Malaysia, the I-Pace was equipped with a Type 2 port for AC charging and CCS2 for DCFC. The electric SUV can cover up to 470km according to the WLTP standard – more than enough to bring you from KL to Penang on a single charge.
Given its status as a five-star EuroNCAP vehicle, there is a long list of standard safety features that are available within the I-Pace including six airbags, Emergency Braking, Driver Condition Monitor, and Lane Keep Assist. The EV has also been equipped with Adaptive Speed Limiter that worked hand in hand with Traffic Sign Recognition capability to adjust its speed via the Cruise Control feature.
Being a premium model, it goes without saying that the I-Pace does have a parking assistance feature built into it in the form of Front and Rear Parking Aid which offers on-screen graphics and audio feedback to help owners manoeuvre the EV safely. In addition to that, there is also the 3D Surround Camera feature.
Digital screens have become a norm among new cars these days and Jaguar has certainly made sure that the I-Pace is not being left behind. Drivers are able to view navigation maps and other relevant driving information through the vehicle’s 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display while there is also the 10-inch screen for the Pivi Pro infotainment system which is also inclusive for Connected Navigation Pro and the support for Smart Settings as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The I-Pace also features a 5-inch touchscreen located underneath the centre display which is dedicated solely to climate control. Not enough with that, the two multi-function rotary dials for climate control also have their own built-in screen to inform users of their settings and you may also notice there is a wireless charger inside the central storage compartment, which comes as a standard for Malaysia.
Available in several colourways such as Aruba, Farallon Black, and Italian Racing Red, the I-Pace can be obtained in two variants including the Black LE which costs RM460,800 not inclusive of insurance. There is also the higher-end HSE variant that is priced at RM498,800 which brings together several upgrades including electronic air suspension, configurable Adaptive Dynamics, and 750W 16-speakers Meridian 3D Surround Sound System.
The HSE variant also features enhanced cabin lighting, Ebony suede cloth headlining, and Windsor leather performance seats with 14-way electric control as well as heat and cooling capability. While both I-Pace variants in Malaysia have the 20-inch 5-spoke wheel design, those that were fitted to the Black LE have a Gloss Black finish while the wheels on the HSE variant were in Gloss Dark Grey with a Contrast Diamond Turned finish.
The I-Pace is covered by a 5-year 150,000km warranty while the vehicle’s high voltage battery has its own 8-year 160,000km warranty. On top of that, owners will also be provided with a complimentary service package for 5 years or 102,000km, whichever comes first.
Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia also giving away RM1,000 GO TO-U credit for customers that ordered I-Pace by 28 May 2023 which they can then use to pay for their DCFC sessions.
