Amazfit has recently unveiled the new T-Rex Ultra smartwatch for the US market. Unlike its closest sibling, the T-Rex 2 model that was launched locally back in July last year, the newer wearable comes with an even more rugged stainless steel body, which at the same time gives it a more premium look and feel.
More specifically, the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra is fitted with a 316L stainless steel bezel, back panel, bridge and buttons, along with a polymer alloy middle frame. Despite using different materials, its design closely resembles the T-Rex 2 in most aspects, and features the same MIL-STD-810G rating for durability, as well as 10 ATM rating for water resistance. Unique to the newer model is its EN13319 & ISO6245 certifications, which means it can still function properly up to 30 metres in depth and even withstand water pressure equivalent to up to 100 metres. As for colour selection, the new wearable is available in Abyss Black and Sahara.
Again, much like its sibling, the Ultra model also sports the same 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen with 454 x 454 pixel resolution, 326 PPI, and a max brightness of 1000 nits. One noteworthy difference is its onboard BioTracker PPG biometric sensor, which supports blood-oxygen tracking, but lacks the 6PD support that’s featured on the T-Rex 2.
Nevertheless, the newer smartwatch is packed with over 160 sports modes, as well as numerous other useful features such as air 24-hour heart rate, Sp02 tracking, pressure and altitude monitoring, compass, GPS positioning via six satellite systems, offline map support, and more. All of which are handled by the onboard Zepp OS 2.0 platform.
Battery-wise, even though the watch is equipped with the same 500 mAh capacity as the T-Rex 2, its battery life is rated slightly lower. More specifically, the T-Rex Ultra is said to be capable of lasting up to 20 days of typical use and up to 25 days in battery saver mode. For comparison, its sibling is claimed to last up to 24 days and up to 45 days respectively.
For the US market, the new Amazfit T-Rex Ultra is available now at a recommended retail price of US$ 400 (~RM 1,768) via its regional online store, Amazon, and AliExpress. The company has yet to confirm whether the smartwatch will be made available in other countries at a later date, including our own.
