There have already been plenty of rumours surrounding the upcoming iPhone 15 that’s coming later in the year, including the Pro variants. Earlier this month, word on the street was that said Pro models will be coming with a single volume rocker rather than the traditional two separate volume buttons. The mute switch will also supposedly be a button instead. And they will all be of the haptic feedback variety, rather than physical buttons. Now, there are more CAD renders floating online that support this claim.
Industry leakster ShrimpApplePro posted a video on Twitter which first appeared on Douyin, China’s distinct version of TikTok. In it are CAD renders of what is claimed to the the upcoming iPhone 15 family, including the Pro models. As per the earlier rumours, the renders of the Pro model shows a longer button, which one can easily construe as the unified volume rocker. There’s also a small button right next to it, in the position where you’d usually expect the mute switch.
Another set of renders depict a more familiar look for Apple customers, showing a phone with two buttons next to each other and looking a lot like the usual two volume button setup. This also depicts a switch next to the pair of buttons, likely the good old mute switch. This is presumably the render of the base iPhone 15 model. Despite these differences, both are depicted sporting a charging port that’s more USB-C than Lightning, which is a good sign.

Having a unified volume rocker has always been more an Android thing than it is for iOS, and making them use haptic feedback makes it another step away from what most iPhone users are accustomed to. It remains to be seen if this is something that will be well received by the fruit company’s repeat customers. For those who have no use for a dedicated mute switch, on the other hand, the new buttons can probably be turned into something more useful, like a camera shutter buttons. But it still remains to be seen if any of this will come to pass.
