Their existence has been rumoured for the past few weeks but it is now time to shut down the whispers once and for all: Samsung has officially taken the drape off the new Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy A34 5G. In addition to that, the phones will be released into our market soon too according to Samsung Malaysia’s website.
You may already be able to tell from their name that one of the differences between both of these 2023’s Galaxy A Series devices is that they have different screen sizes. It is indeed true but does note that the A34 was equipped with a larger 6.6-inch display while the A54 carries a 6.4-inch display.
They also come with different selfie camera designs with the A34 having the Infinity-U teardrop shape as opposed to A54’s Infinity-O punch-hole implementation. Nevertheless, both devices still feature a Super AMOLED display panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Unsurprisingly, they also run on different sets of processors. As per tradition, Samsung did not list down the exact chipset that has been equipped into these devices although Sammobile has noted that the A54 is running on the Korean giant’s own Exynos 1380 while the company has opted for MediaTek Dimensity 1080 for A34.
That being said, both devices have similar memory options with up to 8GB of RAM and maximum internal storage of 256GB. They are also able to support microSD cards with storage space of up to 1TB.
When it comes to photography, the A54 relies on a 50MP primary camera as well as a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera. The A34 on the other hand features a 48MP primary camera and an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera.
The primary cameras on A54 and A34 have an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization system while there is also a 5MP f/2.2 macro camera on both devices. For selfies, Samsung has provided a 32MP f/2.2 camera for A54 while the A34 is using a 13MP f/2.2 camera for the job.
Together with their Galaxy S23-like physical design, other features that are available on both devices include an IP67 rating, Dolby Atmos support, and a 5000mAh battery. Samsung once again reiterates its commitment to delivering long-lasting support for their Galaxy devices which is why the A54 and A34 have been made eligible to receive four generations of OS upgrades together with five years of security updates.
Samsung still keeping their Malaysian pricing a secret for now but in case you need some context, their predecessors – the Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A33 5G – were priced at RM1,849 and RM1,499, respectively when they were launched last year. In September 2022, their price tags were then reduced to RM1,699 and RM1,349.
Similarly, their local launch date was not revealed today as well. However, the company has noted in its global announcement that both devices will be heading to retail stores starting this month itself with Europe and South East Asia will be the initial focus regions for them.
