Xiaomi has recently announced that it will soon hold a launch for the Redmi Note 12 series next week. The new line-up initially made their debut in China during late 2022, and was then followed by the Indian launch back in January this year. After reaching out to the company, a representative informed us that the upcoming event is actually meant for the European market, despite being announced via its global Twitter account. However, rest assured that a potential launch in Malaysia is still in the cards, but we’ll get to that later.
To bring you up to speed; the Redmi Note 12 series consists of a standard offering, as well as Pro and Pro+ variants. All three models feature the same design language and IP53 rating for dust and water resistance, though only the latter two sport curved displays. Certain specifications also differ from one model to another, with the Pro+ variant naturally being the more premium variant.
The vanilla version sports a 6.67-inch flat AMOLED display, which features 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Also onboard is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, loudspeaker, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB-C port, Android 12 via MIUI 13, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1 wireless connectivity.
Brace yourselves for the #RedmiNote12Series! This launch is going to be so out-of-this-world amazing, you'll need a space shuttle just to catch up!

Internally, the phone is equipped with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset, along with an Adreno 619 GPU, up to 6 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. Its battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh, which supports 33 W wired fast charging. For photography, on the vanilla variant’s back is a triple camera setup that consists of a 48 MP primary, 8 MP ultra-wide, and 2 MP macro sensors, while housed in the cutout on its display is a 13 Mp selfie camera.
Next is the Redmi Note 12 Pro, which features a 6.67-inch curved OLED display with 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Like its entry-level sibling, it too comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB-C port, Android 12 via MIUI 13, and Wi-Fi connectivity. However, what sets it apart is the onboard stereo speakers, as well as the inclusion of Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC support.
Under the hood, the Note 12 Pro is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset, along with a Mali-G68 MC4 GPU, up to 12 GB of RAM, and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. In addition, it has a battery capacity of 5,000 mAh, which supports a faster charging rate of 67 W via USB-C. Meanwhile, situated on the back of the phone is a 50 MP primary, 8 MP ultra-wide, and a 2 MP macro, whereas in front is a 16 MP selfie camera.
Lastly, we have the Pro+ variant of the Redmi Note 12. For the most part, the phone’s display and specifications match the regular Pro model, with the few differences being its faster 120 W wired charging support and a larger 200 MP primary sensor for its rear camera setup.
The European launch is scheduled to happen on 23 March at 11 pm local time, likely to be live streamed via Xiaomi’s official social media channels. Using its debut in India as reference, the vanilla Redmi Note 12 starts from INR 15,499 (~RM 842), the Pro variant from INR 24,999 (~RM 1,359), and the Pro+ from INR 25,999 (~RM 1,413).
As for the Malaysian market, the same Xiaomi representative told us that a local launch is indeed coming in the very near future, though the exact date is still kept under wraps for now. It’s also worth mentioning that the Redmi Note 12 Pro is already listed in SIRIM’s database. However, the same can’t be said for its siblings.
