Alongside the Mach 15, local high-performance laptop outfitter Illegear has also announced its new 2023 Onyx series, which is available in three different configurations. These include the AMD Ryzen 7-equipped VX variant, as well as the 13th Gen Intel Core-equipped NX and GX models.
All three devices share the same design; complete with the same 16-inch display size, dual 2 W Amplified speaker system with 2-channel high definition audio support and Nahimic Audio enhancements, a built-in digital microphone, and numerous I/O Ports. The latter of which consists of a HDMI 2.1, Mini DisplayPort 1.4, DC-in jack, mic-in, headset combo port, an ethernet port, a single USB-C port, three USB-A 3.1 ports, and a 2-in-1 SD/SDHC/SDXC card reader slot.
The trio comes with 512 GB NVMe SSD internal storage, which is expandable up to 4TB via two M.2 slots. Additionally, they also feature liquid metal cooled CPUs and GPUs, RGB illuminated keyboards, and runs on Windows 11.
The entry-level Illegear Onyx VX comes with a 16-inch WUXGA IPS Infinivision display with 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, 165 Hz refresh rate, and 300 nits brightness. Internally, it is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS processor, up to 32 GB dual channel SODIMM DDR5 RAM (expandable up to 64 GB via two additional slots), and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8 GB GDDR6 with MUX Switch for graphics acceleration.
Besides that, it also features a built-in HD webcam on the upper bezel of its display, and a membrane keyboard with single-zone programmable RGB. Power-wise, the VX is equipped with an embedded polymer 62 Wh battery pack, with a compatible 230 W AC Adapter included in the package.
Next up is the Onyx NX, which comes with mostly the same specifications as the earlier model, save for some differences. Apart from the same 1080p option, users may opt to equip the gaming laptop with a 16-inch display panel that offers a higher resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and a faster refresh rate of 240 Hz, but a lower brightness capacity of up to 350 nits. Unlike the VX, its chassis consists of an anodized aluminium back cover.
Instead of an AMD processor, under the hood of the NX can be up to a 13th Gen Intel Core i7-13700H, while its graphics acceleration can support up to a GeForce RTX 4070. Also keep in mind that even though this particular model offers the same RAM count and expandable limit as the VX, it uses dual channel DDR4 memory instead.
Lastly, we have the Illegear Onyx GX, which is essentially the top-of-the-line model from the series. Onboard is a 16-inch WQXGA IPS Infinivision display with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution, 240 Hz refresh rate and 350 nits brightness, while its internals consist of a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900HX processor, a GeForce RTX 4080 12 GB or RTX 4090 16 GB GPU, and up to 32 GB dual channel SODIMM DDR5 RAM (expandable up to 64 GB via two additional slots).
Also featured on this model is an anodized aluminium back cover, mechanical keyboard v3 by Cherry MX Brown, glass touchpad, a Thunderbolt 4 hybrid USB-C (replacing the standard USB-C on the other variants), and a liquid cooling connector. Meanwhile, it has an embedded polymer battery with a larger capacity of 99 Wh, and comes with a full range AC-in 330W AC adapter.
The new 2023 Illegear Onyx gaming laptops are expected to be available by late March this year, with pre-orders now available via the brand’s official website. For pricing, the Onyx VX model is set to retail for RM 4,999, the Onyx NX at RM 5,699, and the Onyx GX at an eye-watering RM 12,599.
