Late last year, we saw hardware leakster chi11eddog, or @g0ld3nm4ng0, sharing an Alienware monitor boasting a refresh rate of 500Hz. The company first announced the monitor during CES 2023, proving that the leakster was right on the money. Now, there is a price tag associated with it too, and let’s just say that it’s not for the faint of heart.
To quickly go over what this monitor is all about, the Alienware AW2524H is a 24.5-inch monitor comes with a Full HD IPS panel with its claim to fame being the 500Hz refresh rate. Technically, the native refresh rate is rated at 480Hz, but it’s been pushed up via factory overclocking. Though to actually get these refresh rates, you’ll have to use the DisplayPort 1.4 connector. There are also two HDMI 2.1 ports, but using those will limit the refresh rate to 240Hz.
It’s still worth mentioning that any refresh rate above 240Hz, let alone 360Hz, is pretty nutty. Most people will not even be able to tell the difference at those speeds, so going all the way up to 500Hz feels like overkill. Unless you’re an esports athlete or something along those lines, but even then it feels a bit much. Not to mention you’ll be taxing your gaming hardware for no perceivable returns. Then there’s the 1080p limit which, if you have the hardware needed to run games at 500fps, you’ll probably also want to bump the resolution up a notch.
According to The Verge, the Alienware AW2524H is priced at US$829.99 (~RM3717). It’s also the fastest commercially available gaming monitor, beating to the punch the ASUS ROG Swift 500Hz, which was unveiled much earlier. That being said, there’s currently no word on if this monitor will be making an appearance in the local market, or what it will cost when that happens.
