Razer is in quite a spree of releasing products with the Pro moniker. Continuing that pattern is the latest in its BlackWidow line of mechanical keyboards, the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro. And besides the fact that it’s still sticking to its mechanical lineage, it’s about all a gamer can ever ask of a keyboard.
On the surface, the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro looks pretty much like the other members of its family. You have the two choices of switches – green and yellow, which corresponds to blue and red from other makers. Then you have the five macro keys on the left. There’s also the Chroma RGB support, albeit with more zones on the sides, including for the magnetically attached wrist rest. But then, you find out that this keyboard has a lot more than what its other BlackWidow siblings have to offer.
To the left of the five macro keys are three more, on the left side of the keyboard frame itself. Then on the top left corner, you see what the company calls the Command Dial, though it’s unclear in what way this differs from the dial that’s found on the Huntsman Elite. Something else that’s borrowed from its Huntsman cousin are the four media keys, but the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro goes a step further and gets itself a media roller. Naturally, all of these are programmable via the Synapse software.
One thing that this new excessive keyboard is bringing back in fashion is a USB passthrough. If you recall, these have been slowly disappearing ever since keyboards made the jump to USB-C adoption. That being said, while the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro itself uses USB-C for both itself and the passthrough port, said port is only for a USB-A 2.0 connector.
With all that in mind, the price of this overkill keyboard known as the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro comes with a price of RM1149. Which is kind of to be expected since it’s just optical switches short of being the perfect keyboard. On the flip side, it’s amazing that a keyboard with so much to offer compared to its alternatives is priced lower than the Viper Mini Signature Edition, which has no claim to fame beyond its weight, or lack thereof.
