Performance metrics belonging to the recently launched Intel 13th Gen Core i9-13980HX mobile processor has apparently made their way online. The CPU’s benchmark materialised in the form of PassMark, a benchmark that isn’t as wildly popular as other testing software out there, to say the least.
According to PassMark’s CPU test for laptops and portable CPUs, the 13980HX scored 54483 points in the test, pulling ahead of not just the 13900HX a tier-below, but also AMD’s recently mentioned Ryzen 9 7845HX mobile CPU, which itself is based on Team Red’s Zen 4 microarchitecture. Those two processors obtained a score of 51739 and 46791, respectively.

As pointed out by Videocardz, the 13980HX is shown to be between 9% and 14% faster than the 7845HX. These performance figures are kind of expected, given that Team Blue’s top-tier mobile CPU is rocking 24-cores and Team Red’s own mobile powerhouse only has 12-cores. That being said, do note that the list doesn’t contain the performance metrics of AMD’s Ryzen 9 7945HX, which is expected to be a 16-cores CPU and should narrow the performance gap between the two rivals further. At least, on the mobile PC and laptop front.
Beyond this, no further information about the 13980HX has been included in the PassMark performance list. Prior to this, we also reported on another mobile CPU from AMD, the Ryzen 7 7840HS. In the case of that CPU, the results were first posted on the Chinese video site, BiliBili, and it was its Cinebench R23 multi-core score. Specifically, the processor managed to score 16854 points, making it just slightly faster than a Core i9-12900H but slower than a 13900H. In comparison, the 7845HX in the same test scored 21623 points and a single-core score of 1808 points.
One of the first laptops to actually rock the 13980HX is the MSI Raider GE78HX, one of the brand’s powerhouse desktop replacements that we had the good fortune of actually seeing in person, during our coverage of the brand’s keystone products at CES 2023.
