Xiaomi has announced that the global launch for its upcoming Xiaomi 13 smartphone series will be held on 26 February 2023. Consisting of vanilla and Pro models, the line-up are the first devices to officially debut the collaboration between the brand and German camera maker Leica to the world. Reason being that the devices which initially introduced the partnership between the companies, the Xiaomi 12S series, were only released as China exclusives.
To recap the newer line-up’s launch in China back in December of last year, the vanilla Xiaomi 13 offers a 6.36-inch OLED display with 2400 x 1080 pixel resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. For durability, the screen comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection, while the phone itself is rated IP68 in dust and water resistance.
Internally, it is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which is paired with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Powering the phone is a 4,500 mAh battery, which comes with 67 W wired and 50 W wireless fast charging support, as well as 10 W reverse wireless charging. Connectivity-wise, onboard are 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3 support.
For photography, the vanilla model’s rear camera array consists of Leica-enhanced optics including a 50 MP main shooter, a 10 MP telephoto with OIS and 3x optical zoom, as well as a 12 MP ultra-wide. Situated within the display’s punch-hole cutout is a 32 MP front-facing camera.
Next up is the Xiaomi 13 Pro, which sports a larger 6.73-inch LTPO OLED display with 3200 x 1400 pixel resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 1,900 nits. Much like its sibling, it too comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection and is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance.
This particular model also shares the same internal hardware specifications and connectivity support as the vanilla variant – save for a larger battery capacity of 4,820 mAh, which comes with a faster 120 W charging speed via USB-C. Despite that, the phone still features the same 50 W wireless and 10 W reverse wireless charging capabilities.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 13 Pro’s Leica-enhanced camera module comes with a 1-inch Sony IMX 989 50 MP sensor for its primary, which is paired together with a 50 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and a 50 MP ultra-wide lens. Up front, on the other hand, is the same 32 MP selfie camera as its sibling.
Obviously, pricing for the upcoming Xiaomi 13 series for the global market has not been revealed just yet. But for your reference, the vanilla model launched at a starting price of CNY 3,999 (~RM 2,530) in China, while the Pro variant starts from CNY 4,999 (~RM 3,160). As you may recall, both devices have reportedly received approvals from SIRIM back in December, indicating an imminent release in Malaysia in the very near future.
