The sign of its imminent entry into our market is obvious since the device was already listed on SIRIM’s database but it was only at the global launch event last night that OnePlus has finally confirmed that its new flagship, the OnePlus 11 5G is coming into Malaysia. In addition to that, the company’s new audio device, the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 will be released here as well.
For those who missed our take on the device’s official launch in China, the 11 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor alongside up to 16GB LPDDR5X and 256GB UFS 4.0-based internal storage. However, we have no idea at the moment which combination of memory and storage setup that OnePlus will bring to Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the new device also comes with a 6.7-inch QHD+ Super Fluid AMOLED display that is inclusive of LTPO technology alongside dynamic refresh rate capability that allows it to go between 1Hz to 120Hz. In addition to having touch response rate of up to 1000Hz and 10-bit colour depth, the display supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR contents while it is also being protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and has been equipped with in-display fingerprint sensor.
As you might be able to noticed on phone’s back area, one of the 11 5G’s main highlight is its camera which is once again co-developed with Hasselblad. The 3rd generation camera system features a main camera with a 1/1.56-inch 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor that has been paired with a 6P f/1.88 lens as well as both optical and electronic image stabilization.
It also comes with two more cameras including an ultra-wide camera that has a 1/2-inch 48MP Sony IMX581 sensor and 6P f/2.2 lens. There is also a portrait telephoto camera with 2X optical zoom capability that utilizes a 1/2.74-inch 32MP Sony IMX709 sensor and 6P f/2.0 lens.
Completing the camera system is a 13-channel multi-spectral sensor to help deliver more accurate colour in each snap. The 11 5G also carries a 16MP f/2.45 selfie camera with EIS although it does not feature autofocus capability though.
Alongside dual audio speakers with Dolby Atmos support, the general hardware specification for the Wi-Fi 7-ready device is completed by a 5,000mAh dual-cell battery. With the help of SuperVOOC 100W fast charging technology, OnePlus claimed that the new 11 5G takes only 25 minutes of charging time to go from 1% to 100%.
As noted earlier, OnePlus will also be launching another device in Malaysia alongside the 11 5G in the form of the Buds Pro 2 true wireless earbuds (TWE). Just like the phone, the new audio buds were conceived through a collaborative effort.
Specifically, OnePlus worked together with Dynaudio to develop the buds’ Melody Boost dual drivers which features a combination of 11mm woofer and 6mm tweeter. The company has also roped in the renowned film score composer Hans Zimmer to help tuned a customized EQ setting called Soundscape.
Additionally, the company also worked with Google to support Fast Pair and Android 13’s spatial audio with head tracking framework while its cooperation with Dolby ensured that Buds Pro 2 is able to also support Dolby Atmos contents. Equipped with three microphones on each bud, OnePlus claimed that the Buds Pro 2’s adaptive noise cancellation (ANC) feature can tuned out noises of up to 48dB.
When it comes to battery life, the buds themselves can last up to six hours with ANC turned on or nine hours without ANC. The charging case would then increase the figure to 25 hours and 39 hours, respectively.
Given that all the technical specifications and features of both 11 5G and Buds Pro 2 have been revealed at the global launch last night, perhaps the major detail that will become the highlight of the upcoming Malaysian launch event would be their pricing. That is certainly something that you have to wait until the event takes place next week on 14 February.
Nevertheless, if you need a reference point, the 11 5G starts at USD699 (~RM3,005) in the United States while Buds Pro 2 is listed at USD179 (~RM770) over there. In India which was the venue of the global launch event yesterday, the phone starting price is INR56,999 (~RM2,964)
As for the Buds Pro 2, it is priced at INR11,999 (~RM624). OnePlus has also created another variant of the TWE called Buds Pro 2R specifically for India which costs INR9,999 (~RM521) but does not feature head tracking and wireless charging capabilities.
