Many have been aware of its existence since at least a few weeks ago but the rumour mill can finally be put to rest today as POCO has officially launched the new X5 5G Series to the world. Available in two models, the brand has officially confirmed that both POCO X5 Pro 5G and X5 5G are already on their way to Malaysia.
With a general design that resembles last year’s X4 GT, POCO continues to maintain the X Series mid-range role with the new X5 5G Series devices. Both devices are equipped with a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display that has a refresh rate of 120Hz and 240Hz touch sampling rate although the Pro model was covered by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 while the standard option received the older Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
POCO has also implemented different processors on both models as the X5 Pro 5G is running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G as compared to the Snapdragon 695 on the X5 5G. Despite having the same 5000mAh battery, the standard model’s charging capability maxes out at 33W but the Pro model can support up to 67W.
Naturally, even their photography hardware is different as well. The main camera on X5 Pro 5G features a 108MP sensor as opposed to X5 5G’s 48MP sensor although their secondary cameras are identical with an 8MP ultra-wide camera and 2MP macro camera.
Both of these secondary cameras were actually similar to last year’s X4 GT. For selfies, the X5 Pro 5G relies on a 16MP camera while the X5 5G goes for a 13MP camera.
Interestingly, POCO has decided to utilize two separate e-commerce platforms to perform the initial rollout of the new X5 Series in Malaysia which will be taking place from 9 to 15 February. The X5 Pro 5G can only be obtained via Lazada while the standard X5 5G is reserved for Shopee although both models will be released through POCO Official Store on both platforms starting from 16 February onwards.
When it comes to pricing, the X5 Pro 5G with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage goes for RM1,299 and the beefier 8GB/256GB configuration will be available for RM1,499. Available in Black, Blue, and Yellow, they can be obtained at a slightly lower price of RM1,199 and RM1,399, respectively until 15 February.
As for the standard X5 5G which is available in Green, Blue, and Black, the 6GB/128GB variant carries a price tag of RM1,099 as opposed to the higher-end 8GB/256GB option which costs RM1,199. Similarly, the device can be purchased at a slightly lower price of RM999 and RM1099, respectively during the X5 Series initial rollout into Malaysia.
