HONOR has officially announced a launch date for its upcoming Magic5 series. According to its website, HONOR will unveil its new flagship lineup on 27 February at 8PM (Malaysian time) during MWC 2023 in Barcelona, alongside the global debut of its recent foldable smartphone, the Magic Vs.
The Magic5 series will of course be the direct successor to last year’s Magic4 lineup, but the brand has not released any official specs of its upcoming flagship just yet. With the slogan “Unleash the Power of Magic”, HONOR has only teased what looks to be a triple camera setup on a circular island, which was apparently inspired by the first ever image of a black hole in the milky way.
The lineup reportedly consists of three models: the standard Magic5, Magic5 Pro, and Magic5 Ultimate. Leaks have claimed that all three devices will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, with a potential fourth Lite variant with a Snapdragon 695.
The biggest differences between the three will be the cameras they are equipped with. According to rumours, the triple camera setup might only be for the vanilla Magic5 while the Pro and Ultimate might get four 50MP sensors on the back, though some modules might use 64MP sensors.
As for the Magic Vs, HONOR says that the foldable is slimmer and lighter than its predecessor, running on last year’s Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. The phone sports a 6.45-inch 120Hz outer OLED display while the inside display uses a 7.9-inch 90Hz OLED panel.
HONOR has previously confirmed that the Magic Vs will be coming to Malaysia in the first quarter of the year, but the exact date and local pricing has not been revealed yet — it starts at around RM4,800 in China. Hopefully, we’ll find out when Malaysian consumers can look forward to both the Magic5 and Magic Vs soon after the global launch.
