Unifi TV will be adding three new channels to its line-up this coming February. However, we have also heard an unconfirmed report that some of the existing channels will be taken off the air at the same time too.
Starting on 1 February, Unifi TV will begin to broadcast beIN Sports 2 which is aptly timed given the recent announcement by beIN Sports that it has secured exclusive rights for Formula One broadcast in Malaysia. TM has since confirmed that Unifi TV customers will be able to catch the motorsports event through beIN Sports when the 2023 season kicks off in Bahrain this March.
Aside from that, ONE which focuses on shows from South Korea will be making its way to Unifi TV at the same time as well. Completing the list is Moonbug Kids which will be showing some of the most popular children’s shows around such as Blippi, CoComelon, and Little Baby Bum.
While Unifi TV didn’t widely announce this, the IPTV service will remove Unifi Sports 2, 3, and 4 from its line-up. The decision was primarily conveyed through the removal notice that is currently being displayed on all three channels.
Neither Unifi nor TM has publicly revealed the reason behind the decision but we believe it might have to do with the conclusion of the company’s Malaysian Football League (MFL) sponsorship which includes broadcasting rights. We have been hearing rumours of other parties such as Astro and RTM have already picked up the mantle for the 2023 season but MFL earlier this week said that more information regarding the official broadcaster will be revealed soon enough.
Meanwhile, we have seen an Unifi TV brochure that has been circulating online which claimed to have the latest channel list for February 2023. Three current channels including Arirang, Techstorm, and Laku Mall have been omitted from the list, together with the three Unifi Sports channels that we mentioned earlier.
Once again, we have yet to discover any official announcement regarding their removal. That being said, we did notice that the show listings for all three channels in the TV Guide from 1 February onwards are already empty.
We are reaching out to Unifi representatives for further clarifications, so stay tuned for more. Nevertheless, you might want to prepare yourself if you are a fan of these channels.
