Just in time for the Chinese New Year celebration, TNB has revealed that the first TNB Electron DC fast chargers (DCFCs) are now operational in two locations. Deployed by its subsidiary TNBX, the rollout was done through a collaboration with GO TO-U Malaysia.
Both of these DCFCs are located inside a highway’s R&R area with one being the northbound R&R Ayer Keroh of the North-South Expressway (PLUS). The other unit is located at the northbound R&R Paka of the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 (LPT2).
It is not hard to spot these chargers in both locations given the petrol station-like structure that TNBX has built for them, complete with huge TNB Electron branding. They were equipped with an all-in-one DCFC unit that has two 90kW outputs with CCS2 connectors and based on photos from their PlugShare listing, the chargers were sourced from Exicom.
At the moment, EV owners are able to utilize these chargers for free. All they got to do is activate them using the GO TO-U mobile app which is readily available for Android and iOS devices.
TNB is also currently building another TNB Electron DCFC charger at northbound R&R Tapah according to this PlugShare listing. From the photo and additional information that was noted in the listing, it seemed that the company will be using a different equipment for Tapah which apparently will offer two 180kW outputs.
Prior to this, TNBX was also involved in the DCFC rollout for Sime Darby Motors which involved several of Auto Bavaria’s BMW dealerships in Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor as well as Hyundai Ara Damansara.
