Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Reportedly Running On Customised Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Chip

Said to feature a higher clock speed than the standard release.

While the leaks of the yet-to-be-announced Samsung Galaxy S23 series have been plenty as of late, another new yet interesting piece of information has recently been brought to light. This time around concerning the line-up’s included processor, which 9to5Google reports to be a custom-made Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

Based on details from a documentation allegedly seen by the publication, the hardware in question is claimed to be known as “Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy”. Unlike the version that’s featured on other flagship smartphones, the 4 nm chip used on the Galaxy S23 series will have a higher clock speed of 3.36 GHz instead of 3.2 GHz for its Prime core. This is joined by four Performance cores clocked at up to 2.8 GHz and three Efficiency cores that go up to 2 GHz.

The customised chip is said to carry largely the same feature set as the standard version, but will come with optimisations specific to the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. Further details regarding the latter weren’t provided, so it’s not known which exclusive features will utilise the full extent of the Galaxy-exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 variant. It’s also worth noting that earlier rumour is suggesting that this particular processor is manufactured by Samsung’s own foundry rather than TSMC.

Should this detail be accurate, this would mean that the upcoming Galaxy S23 series would be the only smartphones to feature a more powerful version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Whether this could actually give Samsung’s next generation flagship line-up an edge over its competitors remains to be seen.

Just in case you missed it, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series is expected to launch next month during the Galaxy Unpacked event that’s officially confirmed to be held on 1 February 2023 in San Francisco. However, Malaysians might not have to wait long to check out the new devices for themselves. Not only has the Ultra variant of the series been spotted in SIRIM prior to the launch, Samsung has also recently confirmed Kuala Lumpur to be one of 29 locations that will be hosting its Galaxy Experience Spaces exhibits. These venues will allow visitors to see and interact with the newly unveiled Samsung devices and innovations that have debuted during Galaxy Unpacked.
