Astro today officially revealed a new app for its broadband service, Astro Fibre. Currently available for Android and iOS devices, this stand-alone app is designed to work with the RG21 router that the company rolled out to Astro Fibre customers in October last year.
Even though it was announced to the public today, the app has already been made available to users much earlier as it was actually mentioned in the presentation slides for Astro’s Q3 FY23 financial report last month. At a glance, the new Astro Fibre app generally seems to have the same nature as many routers or Wi-Fi mesh apps out there.
Aside from a fixed schedule, you can also pause the Wi-Fi access for specific family member profiles on-the-fly at any given time. In others words, think of parental control and you would get the idea.
Another feature that the Astro Fibre app has is the ability to share Wi-Fi access with guests via a QR code. Once generated, users can choose to send over the Wi-Fi QR code to their guests via other means such as WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, Twitter (not sure why you want to do that for your home Internet though), and many more.
