DJI has officially launched its first product of the year with an all-new variant of its RS 3 gimbal series. Known as the DJI RS 3 Mini, the handheld mirrorless camera stabiliser is touted to be a more lightweight and portable variant from the line up, yet retaining most of the features offered by its siblings.
The new Mini shares the same design language from the series, albeit appearing much smaller and less sophisticated than the standard and Pro models. Though not as compact as the brand’s OM gimbals for smartphones, DJI assures that the device can be conveniently stored for travel and offer incredible results through single-handed operation. Like its siblings, the latest addition to the RS 3 line up is only offered in a black colour scheme.
Weight-wise, the gimbal weighs at only 795 g, which is 50% lighter than the high-end Pro model. But despite its lightweight and compact size, the RS 3 Mini is able to support APS-C and full-frame mirrorless camera setups weighing up to 2 kg, which is more or less the same as the standard variant. For your reference, DJI has compiled a list of compatible devices for the gimbal which you can find on its official website via this link.
It also comes with a smaller 1.4-inch full-colour touchscreen, along with M-mode and Record buttons, control nub, as well as a vertical dial in front that can be used to control focusing. Meanwhile, the gimbal’s 3-axis mount features a new dual-layered quick-release plate, allowing photographers to natively shoot vertically without needing external accessories. Battery-wise, DJI says the RS 3 Mini provides up to 10 hours of use, and comes with fast charging support that enables for a full charge in just 2.5 hours.
In terms of features, the Mini variant comes with the same third generation stabilisation technology from DJI as its siblings, as well as the Wireless Bluetooth Shutter function that is supported by most mirrorless cameras in the market. Apart from that, also onboard are numerous yet customisable tracking modes including Pan Follow, Pan, Tilt Follow, and FPV Mode.
The new DJI RS 3 Mini is now available in Malaysia at a retail price at RM 1,549, which is RM 490 cheaper than the vanilla model. Those interested may purchase the gimbal through the brand’s official online stores on Shopee and Lazada, as well as from authorised retailers nationwide.
