Video game leaks are pretty common in the age of the internet. This allows us to get a glimpse of some of the upcoming games that the big time publishers are working on. Over the weekend, there’s a clip that has been making the rounds online, and it’s allegedly an as of yet unannounced title by Sony Interactive Entertainment. In addition to being a first-party title, support studio XDEV will also be involved as a co-developer.
The clip of the alleged unannounced game is extremely short, being just about five seconds long. Things are still a little rough around the edges, indicating that this is a clip that’s in its early stages of development. From the look of things, this looks to be a sci-fi shooter of some sorts, and it’s claimed that it is being developed using Unreal Engine 5.

Over at the ResetEra forums, video games industry leaker DuskGolem claims to “have seen a lot more of this game”, and in a better, more recent state complete with voice-overs and music. That being said, it remains to be seen when SIE will be making an official announcement for this game.
Beyond the sci-fi third person shooter genre, it’s difficult to pinpoint what this game will actually be based on the five-second clip floating around. Though that hasn’t stopped the internet from seeing elements of other popular titles like Gears of War and Mass Effect in the clip. This hasn’t stopped some corners of the web from dubbing this “Gears of Effect”.
All in all though, it’s far too early to even try reading into this, as there’s just so little to even work with. Considering Epic Games only unveiled the Unreal Engine 5 tech demo in May of 2020, and officially released it in April of last year, this Sony first-party game definitely still has a ways to go.
