OnePlus held a major event in China yesterday which saw the debut of its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 11. Alongside the 11, OnePlus unveiled its brand new Buds Pro 2, the best earbuds the brand has to offer.
Visually, the Buds Pro 2 don’t look that much different from the original pair with two-tone buds and a matte square case, although there is a new green colourway. The most obvious way to differentiate the new ones from the old is by looking for the Dynaudio logo stamped on the case, signifying its partnership with the Danish firm for audio tuning.
The earbuds, rated with IP55 dust and water resistance, are equipped with the same 11mm dynamic drivers and 6mm planar diaphragm drivers with support for spatial audio and Dolby Atmos, as well as three microphones on each buds for voice pickup and noise cancelling. Speaking of ANC, the noise cancellation seems to have been upgraded to be able to tune out up to 48db of noise, up from its predecessor’s 40db cap.
The Buds Pro 2 will support AAC, SBC, and LC3 codecs at launch but a future software will also bring support for LHDC 5.0 for high-res Bluetooth streaming. Other features include a 54ms low-latency mode for gaming, a ColorOS 11 feature for posture and cervical spine pressure monitoring, and the new earbuds also have OnePlus’ dual-connection feature, supported on new OnePlus and OPPO devices.
The battery life has gotten a nominal improvement as the case provides up to 39 hours of listening time, up from the first-gen’s 38 hours. On a single charge, the earbuds can last up to nine hours with ANC disabled. The charging case juices up with USB-C but it also supports wireless charging.
The OnePlus Buds Pro 2 come in black and green, going on sale in China next week at a retail price of CNY899 (~RM575). The price for other markets will be revealed during the global debut of the brand’s new smartphone and earbuds on 7 February.
