Samsung has announced not one but two next generation ultra-wide monitors under its Odyssey line-up, which are scheduled to be showcased during this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2023). These consist of the Odyssey Neo G9 and Odyssey OLED G9 models, where the former being the more gamer-centric variant while the latter fulfils an all-rounder role.
The new Odyssey Neo G9 G95NC is the world’s first monitor to feature a dual UHD panel delivered via its massive, quantum mini LED powered 57-inch 1000R curved screen. According to the company, the display offers users a whopping 7680 x 2160 pixel resolution, 32:9 aspect ratio, 240 Hz refresh rate, as well as VESA Display HDR 1000 specification. In addition, it relies on a Matte Display that helps reduce light reflection on its screen in order to minimise distractions and provide users with an uninterrupted viewing experience.
Samsung adds that the monitor boasts the world’s first DisplayPort 2.1 support, which is claimed to achieve data transfers twice as fast as its predecessor. Moreover, this technology also allows for lossless industry-standard Display Stream Compression (DSC) to transmit information without distortion.
Next up is the Odyssey OLED G9 G95SC. Unlike its gaming-centric sibling, this particular model features a slightly smaller ultra-wide 49-inch 1800R curved display and uses quantum dot technology OLED lighting instead. Its display provides quad HD resolution, a 32:9 aspect ratio, 0.1 response time, and 240 Hz refresh rate.
Features-wise, Samsung says the OLED model comes with streaming app support through the pre-installed Smart Hub platform, which allows users to enjoy various content through numerous partners such as Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Youtube, and so on. Additionally, the monitor is also equipped with Samsung Gaming Hub, an all-in-one game streaming platform that allows users to discover and play games directly via cloud services like Xbox and NVIDIA GeForce Now without needing a console or local installation.
With both models slated to be fully revealed during CES 2023, further details such as pricing and availability will likely be announced by then. That being said, it’s still undetermined whether Samsung is planning to release the Odyssey Neo G9 and the Odyssey OLED G9 in Malaysia.
