It’s The Game Awards week, which also means it’s a reason for Steam to hold a sale of sorts. It’s by no means extensive, nor are the price cuts significant, barring some older titles, but it provides options if you either didn’t get everything you wanted in one of the previous Black Friday sales, or if you have managed to blow past all of them.
The first games you’ll see on The Game Awards sale list are the nominated titles of this year. As mentioned, not every title will be getting discounts. But this is about as good a time as any to try relatively high profile games like Scorn, A Plague Tale: Requiem, Stray and Vampire Survivors, the latter two being indies.
Scrolling past those you get limited time access to some demos, and past that, you get to past winners of The Game Awards. Again, not every game listed here is discounted, for example Tales of Arise, which won the RPG of the Year for 2021. But if you scroll further down, you’ll see Mortal Kombat 11 being listed with an 80% discount, as well as the indie darling of 2020 Hades available for half its usual asking price. The list expands all the way back to 2014, which lets you pick up Dragon Age: Inquisition at 80% off.
Chances are, once The Game Awards of 2022 is over and the winners are announced, their publishers will be having more discounts in celebration. On one hand, this may lead to a very real case of discount fatigue, since Steam’s own winter sale is coming up next. But on the other, it’s probably better to have more games in your pile of shame than less. As a reminder, the award event itself is happening on Friday, starting at 8:30AM after taking timezones into account.
