Rapid KL has announced that the Kelana Jaya LRT line will resume full operations starting tomorrow at 6 am onwards, ahead of its proposed date of 15 November 2022. Earlier this evening, the public transport operator had completed the second phase of testing of the newly replaced instruments for its Automatic Train Control (ATC) system, which previously caused a disruption that led to the closure of 16 stations located between Ampang Park and Kelana Jaya.
In a video uploaded to his official Facebook page today, transport minister Wee Ka Siong said the tests have concluded that the effectiveness of the system, as well as the service’s operational safety are stable. “I have also been briefed by the management and technical experts of Rapid Rail on the tests conducted, which included further intensifying tests involving 38 train units from Gombat to Putra Heights stations from last night until early this morning to ensure the Kelana Jaya LRT line is safe and ready to be fully reopened,” he added.

Wee detailed that the sessions also involved the participation of the rail enforcement and planning divisions, as well as the Public Land Transport Agency (APAD). The latter has confirmed to him that the line’s ATC system has been deemed stable, and declared the Kelana Jaya LRT line is safe to resume all operations. The minister added that technical experts from both Rapid KL and the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Thales Group would continue to monitor the system to further ensure all of its functions perform smoothly after the repairs.
Meanwhile, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad president and CEO Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah also announced in a statement today that My50 holders would be given an additional seven days of free rides when they renew their passes. “My50 holders whose passes expire between Monday (14 November 2022) and 20 November can use their pass as usual without any charges, but must ensure they at least have a minimum of RM 5 in their cards,” he said.
