Just arrived for the Malaysian market is Samsung’s latest entry-level smartphone, the Galaxy A04s. Though slightly pricier than its predecessor from last year, the new device does come with a couple of upgrades, especially in the photography department.
Starting off with the display, featured on the Samsung Galaxy A04s is a notched 6.5-inch PLS LCD panel with 720 x 1600 pixel resolution, and up to 400 nits brightness. Basically, the screen is pretty much the same as last year’s model, but now with a higher refresh rate. Also onboard is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, USB-C port, loudspeaker, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Samsung says the phone does come with Dolby Atmos support, but only when you link it up with an external audio device such as headphones or earbuds.
Unlike its MediaTek chip-equipped predecessor, the newer Galaxy A04s packs the brand’s own octa-core Exynos 850 chipset which comes with a Mali-G52 GPU. For the Malaysian release, it is offered with 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage, and can support up to 1 TB of expanded storage via MicroSD. Besides that, the phone also features up to 4G LTE network connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC support, as well as running on Android 12 out of the box via One UI Core 4.
Meanwhile, powering the device is a 5,000 mAh non-removable battery, which the company claims is able to last up to over 20 hours on a single charge. It does not feature any fast charging support, however.
As for imaging, featured on the back of the Galaxy A04s is a triple camera setup which consists of a 50 MP f/1.8 primary shooter, a 2 MP f/2.4 macro, and a 2 MP f/2.4 depth sensor. Housed within its display’s notch, on the other hand, is a 5 MP front-facing camera.
The all-new Samsung Galaxy A04s entry-level smartphone is available now in Malaysia via the brand’s physical and online stores, as well as authorised retail outlets nationwide. It is priced at RM 699, and offered in three different colour options: Copper, Green, and Black.
