Rumours of Silent Hill making a comeback since the cancelled game by Hideo Kojima have been floating around for the past couple of years. In a recent reveal by Konami, the company has finally confirmed the much rumoured Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team. But the arguably more important announcement is that the publisher has also announced a brand new entry into the series: Silent Hill F.
Considering this is the very first reveal of the game, nothing much is known about Silent Hill F. But from the announcement trailer, this game will be quite the major departure from the series, with the setting being in Japan rather than the usual fictional town of Silent Hill. In fact, from the trailer’s description, the new story is set in 1960s Japan.
The trailer itself is also very unapologetically Japanese, from the paddy field to the Showa-era styled streets, from Hina dolls to the Torii gate and spider lilies. Although that last one is often accompanied by trypophobia triggers, so consider that your warning before you watch the trailer for yourself. There’s also a scene at the end where a person’s face peels off as if it was sliced clean from a Mortal Kombat fatality to be careful about.
Konami also says that the story of Silent Hill F is written by Ryukishi07, the pen name of a visual novel artist, who is apparently famed for murder mysteries, psychological and supernatural horror. Which sets some expectations for the quality of the game’s story. No launch dates nor platform availability were announced as of yet. Though it could follow the Silent Hill 2 remake’s formula of only being for the PS5 and PC for the first 12 months.
Beyond these two big announcements, Konami also announced Silent Hill: Ascension and Silent Hill: Townfall. The first sounds like Until Dawn but multiplayer. As for the latter, not much has been revealed beyond the involvement of No Code Studio and Annapurna Interactive.
