Alongside the new M2-powered iPad Pro models, Apple has also launched the 10th generation iPad. With the new release, the Cupertino giant has finally revamped the design of its entry-level tablet with the same design language as per other iPad models within its stable.
Gone are the curved edges which have now been replaced by flat edges. The company has also removed the Home button from the device although the new iPad continues to rely on Touch ID-based fingerprint sensor as its biometric security implementation which has now been relocated to the power button.
Without the Home button on its way, the new iPad was given a larger 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display. Also new for this release is an A14 Bionic chip that was previously present on the iPhone 12 Series and the 4th Generation iPad Air.
When compared to the A13 Bionic processor inside last year’s 9th generation iPad, the A14 Bionic carries a 20% increase in CPU performance as well as 10% graphical improvements. The 16-core Neural Engine within the chip helps increased the machine learning capability of the new iPad by up to 80%.
Apple has also made some changes to the tablet’s front-facing camera which is now located along the landscape edge although still features a 12MP f/2.4 ultra-wide setup and Center Stage capability. On its back, the 10th generation iPad has been equipped with an upgraded 12MP f/1.8 camera that is also capable of capturing 4K 60fps videos as well as 1080p 240fps slow-motion footage.
The new iPad also brings together some upgraded network capabilities including Wi-Fi 6 support which increased its download speed to 1.2Gbps. In addition to having Bluetooth 5.2 capability, it also supports 5G network although it remains to be seen whether the tablet is able to tap into Malaysia’s national 5G network anytime soon.
Not to forget, the 10th generation iPad has also been equipped with a USB-C port which is an added convenience. Unless you are using Apple Pencil with the tablet though as you now have to obtain a USB-C adapter to charge it which costs RM55 at Apple Malaysia’s online store.
Speaking about price tags, here is how much the 10th generation iPad costs in Malaysia
10th gen iPad 64GB – RM2,099 (Wi-Fi) / RM2,849 (cellular)
10th gen iPad 256GB – RM2,849 (Wi-Fi) / RM3,599 (cellular)
Similar to the new iPad Pro M2, the tablet’s release date for Malaysia is still a mystery for the time being. Fret not, we will keep you updated once we are able to obtain the exact launch date for our market.
