Gentari and Proton New Energy Technology (PRO-NET) today unveiled a new partnership at the ongoing International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2022. Given the occasion, it is not surprising that the new deal revolves around EV charging infrastructure.

The deal is yet another milestone for both companies’ journey towards green energy. Gentari, who is Petronas’ green energy subsidiary, has been rapidly deploying EV chargers since its launch back in June.

The company’s first batch of chargers in Malaysia was activated sometime around July and the footprint has since been widened to a total of 225 charging points with some of them located in India. Just last month, Gentari deployed more than 20 chargers at Suria KLCC and the existing AC chargers inside the mall’s Premium Parking area have since been rebranded to Gentari as well.

With that, there are currently 47 EV chargers within Suria KLCC’s car park which we believe is Malaysia’s highest amount of EV charger concentration in one single location.

As for Proton, the national carmaker has signed a deal with fellow Geely subsidiary, smart Automobile Company to introduce the smart #1 in Malaysia and Thailand back in January. Fast forward to August, both companies then formalize their deal which not only cover marketing and distribution but also after-sales services.

This has also led to the establishment of PRO-NET which now overlook Proton’s EV effort. Proton is aiming to bring over the new smart #1 to Malaysia by the fourth quarter of 2023 while the company is also committed to launching its own new energy vehicles sometime in the near future.

Under the new collaboration between Gentari and PRO-NET, Proton dealers throughout Malaysia will soon feature charging solutions powered by the Petronas subsidiary. In-depth details were not revealed today but in the joint announcements, both companies noted that these upcoming EV charging solutions will be beneficial to Proton users.
