Sony lifted the veil off of the Xperia 5 IV early last month, with local availability slated for an unspecified date within Q4 of this year. The company has since revealed that it is putting the phone up for pre-orders.
The pre-order details came in the form of a short 15-second video on the official Sony Malaysia Facebook page. Despite the video format, this announcement could have simply been a still image post.
To quickly refresh, the Sony Xperia 5 IV comes with a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate that is also 50% brighter than its previous iteration. The screen is also protected by a slate of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Underneath, we’re looking at a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage space, and the ever rare microSD card slot for an extra 1TB capacity. The battery is rated at 5000mAh, with support for wireless charging going both ways.
For cameras, the Sony Xperia 5 IV packs a triple camera setup consisting of one 24mm lens, a 60mm telephoto lens sans optical zoom, and a 16mm wide-angle lens. In front, you have a single camera sitting in a traditional bezel, which is fine since it has a matching one at the bottom for proper front-facing stereo speakers.
Getting to its price, the Sony Xperia 5 IV comes in at an eye-watering RM4899. Though to sweeten the deal, the company is throwing in the LinkBuds S, a Touch ‘n Go scratch card worth RM50, a premium clear casing and a tempered glass screen protector. That first one would help make the price of the phone a little bit more justifiable, but both freebies are only available while stocks lasts. The pre-order window closes on 24 October, after which is presumably when you can find the phone on shelves. If you’re interested, you can place your own pre-order by hitting the second link below.
