After numerous leaks ahead of the reveal, tech giant Xiaomi has finally announced the latest entries to its current generation flagship smartphone line-up with the new Xiaomi 12T series. Consisting of a standard model and a Pro variant, the former arrives with a MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Ultra chipset while the latter features the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. Most notably, the Pro model is the first smartphone from the brand to feature a 200 MP sensor, and is also the first of its kind to soon arrive in Malaysia.
In front, the new Xiaomi 12T Pro sports a flat 6.67-inch screen, while on its back is an anti-glare glass rear panel and a triple camera setup that’s arranged vertically. The phone is offered in Black, Silver, and Blue colour options, which features a matte metallic finish. The display itself is an AMOLED panel with 20:9 aspect ratio, 2712 x 1220 pixel resolution, 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, 480 Hz touch sampling rate, 500 nits brightness, and is capable of outputting 68 billion colours. It also has a top-centred cutout which houses a 20 MP front-facing camera, an in-display fingerprint scanner, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, as well as Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support.
As mentioned earlier, found under the hood of the smartphone is the 5G-enabled Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 flagship chipset, which is paired together with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256 GB of internal UFS 3.1 storage. Meanwhile, powering it is a 5,000 mAh battery that enables for 13.5 hours of screen-on time. It also features 120 W fast charging support, which Xiaomi claims is able to fully top up the phone’s battery in just 19 minutes. It is also worth noting that the 120 W charger is included in the box.
Besides that, the 12T Pro comes with NFC, Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6 connectivity, Dual SIM support, and dual Harman Kardon speakers with Dolby Atmos support. Software-wise, it runs on Android 12 via the brand’s MIUI 13 platform.
Situated on the back of the phone is its major highlight: the 200 MP primary camera – making it the second device in the market to come equipped with Samsung’s ISOCELL HP1 sensor aside from Motorola’s X30 Pro flagship model that launched back in August. Being part of a triple shooter setup, paired together with it is an 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP macro sensor. According to Xiaomi, the 12T Pro’s imaging system also features optical image stabilisation (OIS), an improved Night Mode, and 8K video recording capabilities. Lacking a telephoto module, the phone instead offers 2x digital zoom by cropping images shot by the powerful onboard 200 MP sensor.
The standard variant of the Xiaomi 12T, on the other hand, mostly shares the same specifications as the Pro model – save for its processor, memory, and rear camera setup. Unlike its sibling, this model comes with the aforementioned MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Ultra chipset, which is paired together with a single memory configuration of 8 GB RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. Meanwhile, on its back is a smaller 108 MP primary camera, along with an 8 MP ultra-wide and a 2MP macro shooter.
The new Xiaomi 12T Series are slated to be available in Malaysia later this month on 13 October 2022, with pre-orders starting from 4 October onwards via the brand’s official stores on Shopee and Lazada. The standard model is priced at RM 1,999 for its single memory configuration, while the Pro variant is offered at RM 2,699 for the 8GB + 256 GB trim and RM 2,999 for the the high-specced 12 GB + 256 GB option.
